I usually travel with a group that not only needs coffee to function, but may result in bodily injury if they don’t their Morning Joe. That’s where this ingenious invention comes into play. The GSI Outdoors Collapsible Java Drip packs down to a mere inch wide so there’s plenty of room in your sack for it. It’s not an ultra light product, but when you’re sipping fresh drip coffee deep in the mountains, you’ll be glad you brought it along.

The Burton Avid Grom R2D2 Helmet retails for $99.95 and will not only protect your head, but ensure awesomeness at the lodge.

Further investigation has not revealed a Darth Vader Helmet. May I humbly suggest adding a polarized visor that doubles as goggles. And for the love of Jabba, please make this is an adult size.

In other news, I used to listen to a singer called Robby Roadsteamer, who called his fanny pack the “belt of the gods.” Since your lumbar is slightly higher than your fanny, maybe this belt will make you even more godlike.

After hearing the stories of his struggles over a whole lot of weeks – being basically tethered to a toilet – I’ve been very cautious about making sure my water is sterile. After reading an article on Backpacker about the SteriPEN Adventurer, I have a feeling I’ll be picking one up before my next back country adventure.

According to Backpacker’s research the Adventurer is quicker and lighter than average, doesn’t change the taste of water, and eliminates all micro-organisms you’ll run into in North America. You’ll drop close to a hundred bucks on the thing, but isn’t that better than crapping your brains out for a couple months? I think the answer is yes.

Problem is, for about five months out of the year snow and winter weather swallow up my sidewalks and running trails. I’ve tried to run in my regular snow shoes, but they’re bulky and uncomfortable, a complete and total pain in the ass.

That’s why I’m eyeing the Atlas Run for my next pair, so I can do some off-roading when there’s two feet of snow out there. They have a springier suspension than your typical snowshoe, wrap under your arch for a snugger fit with a smaller shoe, and some serious traction. Let’s just hope they don’t flip snow up to hit me in the back like the giant-ass pair I’ve got right now.

I’m a car camper from way back – I generally like to have a giant cooler full of beer and a convenience store within reach at all times – but occasionally I like to branch out from the campground. A couple years ago I discovered the magic of hammock camping, and I have to say I’m a big fan of letting myself sway in the wind rather than waking up with a tree root digging into my back.

The Eno DoubleNest looks right up my alley for my rough-sleeping shenanigans – it packs up to the size of a grapefruit, weighs less than a pound and a half, and sleeps two if you don’t mind being part of the double filling of a nylon taco.

Pick up the DoubleNest for less than $65 at REI.
